Graduate Structural Engineer

Due to continued organic growth, we are actively recruiting for a Graduate Structural Engineer to support in delivering Structural engineering design solutions.

Becoming a key part of the team as a graduate engineer in a relatively small company you will gain ownership and responsibility for a project quickly, but will always have close support from our senior staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertaking structural engineering analysis and design under the supervision of a senior engineer
  • Design of small to medium sized projects or sections of larger projects so as to achieve the client’s objectives to cost and programme-including where necessary attendance at design teams meeting and workshops
  • Production of design calculations in accordance with relevant codes of practice
  • Prepare drawings from engineer’s sketches
  • Prepare reinforcement detail drawings and bending schedules
  • Coordinate with the design team and stakeholder interface
  • Carry out site inspections
  • Attend meetings with clients and the wider design team
  • Absorbing and applying sustainable design practices
  • Gathering of information, carrying out surveys, research
  • Contribution towards specifications, tender/construction documents and reports
  • Supervising and providing assistance to student placements
  • Working with CAD Technicians to produce relevant structural information


Requirements

  • A degree in civil or structural engineering (Minimum 2:2)
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant UK experience in building structures
  • Strong problem solving abilities and creativity
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure
  • Can work well in a small team
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD (preferred not essential)
  • Experience in design software such as Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds
  • Good understanding of Building Structures
  • Good client association and communication
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software packages i.e. Excel, Word etc.
  • Working appreciation of relevant engineering principles
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Great team player
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage time with multiple tasks
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles
  • Apply Eurocodes, British Standards, current Construction (Design and Management) (CDM)
  • Regulations, and other design codes/information as appropriate
  • Candidates must be eligible to work and live in the UK
  • Must hold a full driving licence and own a car

    Structural Engineer, Part Time, Home Based

    We are a structural consultancy practice based in Nottingham, focusing on providing a high level of client service and employee engagement in a friendly and supportive environment. Due to continued organic growth we are looking to recruit one or two more structural engineers based in the Midlands to handle jobs local to them on a self-employed, sub-consultant basis but covered by our professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

    You would be working from your own home and can choose the hours you work and how many jobs you take on, typically two or three days a week. The work involves mainly inspections and reports on building defects and structural design of alterations and extensions, both domestic and commercial. It would suit a person who doesn’t want to go back to commuting or someone who is semi-retired and wishes to remain in the industry without the full-time commitment.

    We would expect you to be able to write good English, a minimum of 3 years relevant UK experience in building structures, have a computer, printer, 8m tape, 600mm spirit level, digital camera etc. Basic working knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD is essential.
